Dr Pat is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and is the first gynaecological robotic surgeon in Ballarat and Western Victoria.
Dr Pat has extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery and is committed to using the latest technologies to improve outcomes for women requiring gynaecological procedures.
Robotic-assisted surgery is one of the most significant advances in modern gynaecology. It allows complex procedures to be performed with extraordinary precision while minimising the impact on the body.
For many women, this means a faster recovery, less pain and the ability to return to normal life sooner.
Ballarat Women’s Clinic is proud to offer robotic-assisted gynaecological surgery, giving women in Ballarat and regional Victoria access to some of the most advanced surgical technology available.
Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery where the surgeon controls specialised robotic instruments from a surgical console.
The system translates the surgeon’s hand movements into incredibly precise micro-movements inside the body.
The surgeon also benefits from a high-definition 3D view of the surgical area, allowing delicate structures to be seen with remarkable clarity.
Despite the name, the robot does not perform the surgery — the procedure is completely controlled by Dr Moloney at every moment.
This technology simply enhances the surgeon’s ability to perform complex procedures with greater precision.
The robotic system provides:
• high-definition 3D visualisation of the surgical field
• highly precise instrument movement
• enhanced dexterity and control
• improved access to difficult-to-reach anatomical areas
Robotic surgery builds on the principles of keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery while providing even greater precision and control.
Potential benefits may include:
• Smaller incisions
• Less blood loss during surgery
• Reduced post-operative pain
• Shorter hospital stays
• Faster recovery and return to daily activities
• Minimal scarring
For women undergoing gynaecological procedures, these benefits can make a significant difference to recovery and overall wellbeing.
Dr Patrick Moloney has developed extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery and complex gynaecological procedures. His work includes the surgical management of conditions such as:
• Endometriosis
• Fibroids
• Pelvic pain
• Menstrual disorders
• Complex hysterectomy procedures
He is also a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES), reflecting his commitment to advanced surgical techniques and ongoing professional development.
Dr Moloney’s approach combines his 20 years of surgical expertise with careful listening and personalised care. He believes that every woman’s situation is unique, and that the best outcomes come from thoughtful planning and clear communication.
