What is Menopause?

Menopause is when a woman has her final period. Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, the average age being around 51. It can be hard to know if you’ve reached menopause, because your periods can be irregular during this time. It’s likely you’ve reached menopause if you haven’t had a period for 12 months.

About 20% of women have no symptoms at all, while 60% have mild to moderate symptoms. The remaining 20% have severe symptoms that interfere with their daily life. More than 57% of women experience hot flushes and night sweats during menopause. Marks the end of the reproductive year. Menopause symptoms can sometimes have a negative impact a woman’s ability to go about her daily routine.
